Richard Morris continues Aston Martin GT4 programme with Forsetti Motorsport at Silverstone
This season, Richard Morris has been carrying out a programme of testing the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 car with leading Aston Martin Racing Partner Team Forsetti Motorsport, which has recently secured the 2024 GT4 British GT teams’ championship.
In July this programme continued with a test on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit – an ideal venue to develop familiarity with the machinery as it combines high-speed corners with slower-speed chicanes and hairpins across its long layout. It was another highly productive day for the 2023 European Sports Prototype Cup Champion as he adds experience of driving with a front-running GT team to his extensive motorsport CV having progressed with great success through karting, single-seater racing, and prototypes.
Throughout the day, Richard successfully completed a packed run-plan combining high-fuel long runs with qualifying simulation runs, allowing him to experience the car in a range of conditions and to demonstrate both his raw pace and consistency over a longer stint. Data sessions with the engineers and the team’s driver coach, Matt George, maximised the amount learned. Working with the team, Richard provided feedback on car balance and, based on this, experimented with different set-ups as the day progressed, enabling him to set his fastest time of the day during his final stint.
Speaking at the end of the test, Richard said: “It’s been a great day in the car today and I’ve learned so much through this run plan. It’s brilliant to be working closely with such a leading team, and to experience the balance changes in the car as we made set-up adjustments in response to my feedback. Sampling the car with different fuel loads and tyre sets is another important element to prepare for race weekends. All of it adds to my understanding of the car and how to extract the most from it. We’re definitely getting into a really competitive place now where I am comfortable with the car, confident in my feel for it, and, ultimately, ready to race a GT car at any opportunity.”
