Richard Morris drives Goodwood Festival of Speed in Genesis Magma Concept
For the third year in succession, Richard Morris returned to the world-famous Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024 to drive the renowned hill climb course alongside current and former F1 drivers and numerous other legends of the sport, participating in the Festival’s unique mixture of rare, exotic, newly released and concept machinery from leading manufacturers.
Richard completed 10 runs across the event driving for Genesis as the brand celebrated the launch of its exciting new Magma range. The Magma range adds a new dimension to Genesis, marking the brand’s expansion into the realm of high-performance vehicles. The focus of Richard’s driving at this year’s Festival was on the G80 EV Magma Concept car, although he also had the chance to sample the stunning GV80 Coupe Concept which made its debut at last year’s Festival.
In a mix of solo runs and drives accompanied by Genesis engineers and VIP guests, Richard demonstrated the impressive performance of the Magma range, thrilling the vast crowds of spectators with the electric car’s acceleration and squealing tyres, while his feedback, based on his extensive racing experience, helped to further refine the concept car’s set-up across the event to extract its full performance on the hill.
Highlights of the event included the Genesis team taking class victory in the famous timed Shootout, being part of a special Genesis ‘Moment’ on the hill featuring the Magma range, and participating in a live podcast recording alongside Genesis ambassador and motorsport legend Jacky Ickx (6-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner, 8 time Formula One Grand Prix winner).
Richard commented: “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an event which I absolutely love and it’s a huge pleasure, as well as a great honour, to drive the hill – which I’ve now been lucky enough to do on more than 20 occasions over the last 3 years. The event has a unique atmosphere allowing fans and enthusiasts to get right up close to the heart of the action and their energy is infectious, particularly when blended with some of the world’s most exciting cars and motorbikes. The Genesis team has treated me fantastically, I’m extremely grateful to them for the opportunity to drive their amazing cars, and I’m proud to have contributed to their well-deserved success at the event.”
